Office Update: Customizing A Basic Schoolhouse Light

It's the 2nd Midweek of the month, which agency it's fourth dimension for some other Monthly DIY Challenge!

I wasn't certain where it was going to larn inwards our home, but I knew I wanted one.  Being the cheap thrifty shopper that I am, I decided to hold off until A. it went on sale or B. I knew just where I wanted it to go.

I larn to purchase the calorie-free together with IT'S NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!!  

That left exclusively 1 choice, DIY my ain version.  

I ended upward buying an inexpensive Schoolhouse calorie-free from Home Depot and updating it alongside the assistance of spray paint, Gold Leaf Rub 'N Buff and Sharpie Markers.

HOW TO UPDATE H5N1 BASIC SCHOOLHOUSE LIGHT

After I bought my calorie-free from Home Depot I headed out to Hobby Lobby to pick upward my Sharpies.  I ended upward getting both regular dark permanent markers together with a duo crude oil based pigment markers.  If you lot are familiar alongside Sharpies together with then you lot know the dark markers stimulate got a regal hue to them.  I was hoping the crude oil pigment sharpie would give me improve coverage together with a to a greater extent than richer dark color. 

I wrapped large prophylactic bands some the basis to role equally a direct to brand my lines.  I institute this is to hold out the best way to larn the straightest lines.  If you lot are dead assail clean, crisp lines create non endeavour this project.  I institute it nigh impossible to larn perfect lines.

 I used the regular sharpie to describe the dark lines, working downwards my globe.

 After completing all the dark stripes I went over each 1 alongside an crude oil based marker.

Here's where I used a flake of lawsuit together with error.  I stimulate got quite a stash of gilded spray paint, but wasn't certain which 1 to use.  I started alongside Valspar metallic element gold, but wasn't thrilled alongside the results.

 Next I tried Rust-oleum pure gold, but it didn't give me the color I was looking for either.

I ended upward breaking out my Gold Leaf Rub 'N Buff and applied 2 coats over laissez passer on the spray paint. The brushed gilded was just what I was looking for.

It's non the master copy together with it's non perfect, but for $40.00 I'll accept it!
